It all started in 2014.
BGR Events was started as a not-for-profit organisation comprising four friends interested in live music. The impetus to actually put on our first gig was provided by Steve Knightley of Show of Hands when he launched his 'Grow Your Own Gig' solo tour. Steve wanted to play small village halls and community centres up and down the land as he'd been writing songs about the decline of English village life for some time and had decided he should play some of these places to try to increase community spirit, etc, etc. We were fortunate enough to get Wadsworth Community Centre to agree to stage the gig and for Steve to play in June 2014 to a packed house.
This success inspired us to try to do it again, and a chance meeting at Glastonbury with Rodney Branigan resulted in Rodney agreeing to play our second gig at Wadsworth. Another fantastic night (there are videos on YouTube to prove it- search for Rodney Branigan at Wadsworth ) and with it came the desire to do some more shows in 2015.
Since then we've put on several shows each year,(details are on the archive page), the majority of which have sold out, and we're planning to continue putting on 5 or 6 events a year featuring high quality artists, some well-known, others not so well-known, who are willing to play smaller venues like Wadsworth. As far as we're concerned, everyone wins with these events. The public get to see fantastic artists in an intimate, friendly setting at very reasonable cost; the Community Centre gets rent & profits from the sale of hot food & beverages; the artists get a gig they otherwise wouldn't get; and we're able to donate any surplus to worthwhile causes. Perfect!
So , Thank You Steve Knightley for giving us the confidence to try this, and Thank You to everyone who has been to any of our events over the last few years. We couldn't do it without you!
Please keep checking this website for updates, and if you wish to subscribe to our mailing list, which we definitely, absolutely & categorically will not 'share' with anyone, please complete the contact form on our 'home' page. Thanks again.
